Oct. 22nd, 2006 10:30 amShane and I went on a REAL date last night. Well, ok, the closest to a date we've come to since the The Return of the King. We went to see the most violent, disturbing, though thrilling movie, "The Departed" Jack Nicholson is so easy to hate, but can't keep a Boston accent for an entire sentance...but whatever. The violence was highly disturbing and after two and a half hours, I'd had enough. Point blank execution after point blank execution. I flinched for every gun shot (HUNDREDS) except the last one. Anyway, it was as violent as a Quentin Tarrantino flick without any of the humour. I was very tense when I walked out of the theatre. For a couple of reasons: The violence, and I was worried the kids were awake and crying and that Josh and his friend were sleeping and not hearing them.
Once we arrived home and found Josh very much awake and the kids very much asleep, I took a deep breath and realised just how much I enjoyed being out. Of course, the neighbours were there in case of emergency, but it was the first time we've left Josh and a friend to babysit for more than 45 min to an hour...and both Zea and Soren. Soren, sure, Zea...not so much. She and Josh clash too much for them to do it during waking hours. Ah well. It's not like we'll make this a frequent occurence as the cost is too great to our tight budget. The boys charged us "friendly rates" for babysitting, and we got to be out for a total of 3 hours for 8 bucks. I guess that is sort of like slave labour, but we did provide them with treats as well, so maybe not so bad.??
HOWEVER, when we do it again, we'll go to the Rio on Broadway and Commercial again. VERY nice and cozy little one screen theatre and so close to home!
Today I'm taking a day off. Shane is off gaming till later this afternoon. I haven't had a REAL day off in a while (watch me get called to a birth). I'm going to watch Ghostbusters and after we'll meander our way to a park or something. Or since Zea and Josh are already outstide, maybe we'll just go outside now. It's my favourite weather, clear and cold.
Happy day!
