In an effort to stay in contact "with everyone" I'm starting a new journal. I'm not making any promises. I don't know if this is a gratitude journal, a venting place, a connection place, a....whatever. Thus the title. I've always felt like a little bit of everything rolled into one...with kids.

Today is Zea's birthday. She's 5. "You can say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to me NOW!" was how I woke up this morning. Last night I fell asleep to, "Mama, tonight is the last night I will be 4!" I love how birthdays are so the bees knees when you're a kid. Ahhh to turn 5.

Her birthday gift from Gramma Bonnie was a Barbie and a Barbie house..."A Totally Real House Casa Sonidos Magicos and La maison animee Casa" Yeah. Sigh.

I'm currently being hassled to put it together NOW!

Uncle Matt arrives soon and then she will open his gift.

The cake request was for a round double layer chocolate cake with white fluffy frosting (gotta love whipped cream frosting) with M&Ms sprinkled throughout and on top. I'm excited to make the cake...well, really I'm excited to eat it.

Josh is busy planning HIS birthday. Sigh. "Last year you had 800 dollars for my party" (what???) "why wouldn't you have that much THIS year???" All this as he plans for the 12 small children, light sabres and DRY weather (his birthday is Nov. 25) and talk of a huge star wars WAR. Ahhh the best laid plans.

Soren is very much, "me too bday!!!" Well, that and "Boobie" which he always wants.

Last night we got together with friends we hadn't seen in a long while. Vietnamese salad rolls, marinated tomato salad (with yellow cherry tomatos fresh from the vine) and black bean wheat meat and broccoli (Yummm!)
It was a lovely evening, lovely picnic and lovely company. I'm glad we are in each others lives.

Now. I've had 2 cups of coffee and there is no excuse left for me to get out of putting together this Barbie house.

However, one vent: Zea asked for a LOCKED diary, a make up kit, a rope swing for the tree (which we nixed when grandpa brought up all the safety issues...and really, it is good to have a 65 year old perspective to keep things SAFE! LOL) and shoes. So she's getting some brown and pink shoes (yeah I know, but they are her choice), a locked diary and an assortment of back to school sorts of things...HEY, whenever your birthday is, whatever is "On sale" and you will actually USE is what you're stuck with from this el cheapo mama...a cheap (though lead free) make up kit (that is small enough to run out after about a week. I'm also sneaky). And...what else? Oh...Barbie clothes.

My vent is: WTF is up with all the toys marketed to girls? What is up with those BRATZ dolls? I am "that mom" I can't do it. I cannot buy her Bratz dolls. If someone else does, I wont' like it...but...OMG! They make Barbie look very vanilla. And...really....wow. I'm "that mom" Anyway, I'm glad she has gramma to buy her what she wants. I remember wanting Barbies too.

I am not buying "THE BIG GIFT" this year. Gifts are nice...for the anticipation and the day or two you spend playing wtih them. But after that, they don't really get played with. The toys that really do it in our house are: Lego/Mega Blocks, Hot Wheels/matchbox/whatever cars, dressup clothes, Barbies and or My Little Ponies and or Groovy Girls. Oh...sidewalk chalk, water guns and colour crayons, water colours and an endless supply of paper. Otherwise...all that other stuff just sits. Ha ha...this I say as I look around at all MY stuff that does what??? JUST SITS! But I HAVE to have it! LOL

Good grief I'm a walking contradiction. It's nice to work all this out in my own head and LET IT GO.
