purge the crab factor
Jan. 23rd, 2007 12:51 pmI've got the crankies! OOOOOOOHHHHHH!
Don't you dare look at ME cross eyed LOL
Sigh
People are well meaning, to be sure. But they annoy me.
I realise that when I was a younger woman and a newer mom I could not have possibly known all of the variables involved in the decisions a mom makes with multiple children, etc., at any given time. BUT when I leave my kids outside of the co-op in the wagon (already full of groceries from another store) in the neighbourhood in which we live for LESS than 2 minutes (to buy a tomato) in the MIDDLE of the day and someone (a young woman sans children...who knows if she HAD children, but still) says, "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be rude, but it probably isn't very safe to leave your babies outside." I get flustered and annoyed.
I was curt, no, possibly rude, definitely flustered, "Well I guess that is YOUR issue. We all have different levels of comfort. But I respect it isn't a decision YOU would make." and nodded with a smart ass grin on my face and walked off. WHY do I take these things so personally if I really think it is safe? (and I do). We are all where we're at...but just shut up already! Grrrrrr.
I'm sure she thought she was being nice and protecting my kids and informing this uninformed mama...whatever...but it is VERY much the wrong approach in making change. And Zea said she didn't even SAY anything she just stood there staring at them. ??? As if they really were babies who lacked language skills, "Where's your mom?" maybe? I mean, if she was that worried she could have stood there and kept an eye on them from a distance or TALKED to them. Maybe she even had a very good reason as to why it wasn't safe that I hadn't taken into consideration but I certainly wasn't going to hear it. Maybe it is karma biting my butt early for snarking a little bit too loudly in public at all the bottle feeders I saw when Zea was a baby.
Sigh. Just leave the snarky comments already. How about supporting each other as women and mothers instead of judging? how about??
Yeah, how about ;)
